Nice Change for Amy August 29th, 2008

Amy Grant departs from some of her earlier work in the happy upbeat pop albums and releases a more acoustic kind of pop rock. It also leaves behind a lot of the happier themes from previous albums. She deals with a lot of different emotions and struggles on this album. It has very well written material and Amy still has the great voice to sing. Standout songs for me are "Takes a Little Time" and "Somewhere Down the Road." It also may take a few listens before the CD grows on you as it is a departure for her.

Tradition at its finest. November 21st, 2004

My family and I absolutely love this cd. We have faithfully listened to it (on record) every year since my parents bought it. It is part of our Christmas tradition to play it when we are decorating the Christmas tree, when we are opening our presents on Christmas Eve, and when we are taking down the tree after Christmas. We know every word of every song, and know that Christmas just wouldn't be the same without it.

(Since this is a compilation album, I am only going to review the two new songs and "Ageless Medley" since that is not included on any other CD.)
"Stay For Awhile": a very good song, and an ideal adult contemporary pick
"Love Can Do": a great song if you are a fan of soft Christian rock
"Ageless Medley": my all-time favorite song, an ideal album closer, and a good track to listen to if you want to hear Amy's CCM songs in short order
Overall: THE COLLECTION is one of Amy's best albums, and by far her best compilation album

great songs July 27th, 2005

This CD does everything well - the big orchestral arrangements that are fun and swingy, the hauntingly beautiful religious songs she wrote, the softer acoustic numbers. She doesn't make any bad choices here and there's maximum style with minimal schmaltz. I consider this in my top 10 of Christmas CD's, which is saying a lot because I've collected a ton of Christmas music over the years.

no matter what christmas CD I get, this one still stands up as the best. It has a little of everything for everyone. "Breathe of Heaven" is the most uplifting song for christmas to me. I could never do it justice, but am amazed each time I hear it! Calms all the stress of the holidays right down for me and I find the true meaning of christmas each time!

This Cd is pretty interesting, being such an old Cd and all. However, though it's "old school", Amy Grant is good all around. If you're an Amy Grant fan, then yes, you will want this CD.

My first cd. November 21st, 2004

This was the first cd that I ever owned. A friend gave it to me because she didn't want it anymore, but once I was able to take it home and play it in the first cd player that I ever owned, I loved it so much. My parents had to tell me to quiet down because I would stay in my bedroom and croon "Lucky One," Oh How the Years Go By," and "Children of the World" for hours on end. Amy Grant definitely made a great cd when she came out with "House of Love!"

This album takes a few listens and then begins to grow on you. I'm a fan of hymns more than a fan of Amy Grant, and that's why I purchased the album. I like some of the non-traditional ways the hymns are presented. It has somewhat of a country feel to it, as some reviewers have mentioned, and I think that's partly because of Vince Gill's influence (who is a superior musician in my opinion) and partly because Amy Grant seems to be going for a more Southern, sit-on-the-porch-swing kind of vibe for the album. I like that she picked some hymns that you don't normally hear in standard hymn collections. The two songs written and co-written by her, to me, are the weakest. I wish she would have put two more hymns in instead. Overall though, it is a good CD.
