great album! July 15th, 2004

Learning To Breathe is Switchfoot's third album. Although it is different from their past two albums (more polished), it is a really great album. It's still full of Jon Foreman's thoughtful lyrics, and the surfer-rock music Switchfoot has come to be known for. Half of the album was produced by veteran Charlie Peacock, and the other half by mainstream producer Jacquire King (No Doubt, Smashmouth, Third Eye Blind). Switchfoot even produced one track themselves. They had more time in the studio to work on this project, and it shows.
'The Loser' is the underdog song. You've got to be a loser to the world to be a winner in God's eyes. The song states only the loser wins / they've got nothing to prove / they'll leave the world with nothing to lose. 'Poparazzi' is a tongue-in-cheek look at the pop culture around us, and how it will always be there no matter how much we try to ignore it. Probably my favorite song on the album is The 'Economy Of Mercy'. A ballad - it's a song about the abundance of God's grace. It's also about finding yourself in Jesus, almost a song of worship, and a definite cry from the heart. Other highlights on the album include 'I Dare You To Move', 'Love Is The Movement', and the title track, 'Learning To Breathe'.
Some fans were disappointed in the changes between Switchfoot's previous albums, and Learning To Breathe, but I found that it is only the next step in the progression of their music. I think that they will continue to mature and change with each album. It is because of this that Learning To Breathe is such a diverse and incredible album.

Good cd but not the best. Has a few good tracks like Poparazi, but I guess I haven't listened to it to fully appreciate it. Its Switchfoot so it has to be good.

Switchfoot's third release "Learning to Breathe" marks an important turning point in their career. The start of mainstream recognition lies herein. And deservedly so. Such songs as "Learning to Breathe" and "Dare You to Move" register with a wide audience, keying in on universal themes of powerlessness, hope, and faith. It is a pleasure to see a band making the crossover to mainstream without sacrificing their faith in their music.

This cd is really great, I think that its probably the best of all of their cd's that they've got out now, better than beautiful letdown, which I also really like, but this one just hits the spot, its a great cd to jam to.

Switchfoot is awesom and this CD is proof. The songs are all fun to listen to, and they have deep meaning behind them. I especially like the ballad-like song, "Love is the Movement". The only track i dislike at all is "The Economy of Mercy." It's a bit too slow for me, but all the others are great.

Its More Like Learning to Rock October 22nd, 2004

Switchfoot has revamped their style slightly with this release. While I enjoyed there past albums this one did not quite meet the same standards. The songs still contain a plethora of meaningful lyrics but the music just does not get me going as it has before. This CD has it's bright spots such as "You Already Take Me There" and "Playing for Keeps". It may not be like the last albums but it is still a solid preformance and I would recommend it to any Switchfoot fan.

this CD is another testament to how these guys can apparently produce an awesome CD at will. Their songs are well written and filled with insightful lyrics (Love is a movement, dare you to move), and even know how to have a good time (Paparazzi). Pick this one up.
