Description:

Frank Peretti

This Present Darkness
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

Ashton is just a typical small town. But when a skeptical reporter and a prayerful pastor begin to compare notes, they suddenly find themselves fighting a hideous New Age plot to subjugate the townspeople, and eventually the entire human race.

This Present Darkness rivals The Screwtape Letters with its keen insight into spiritual warfare and the necessity of prayer. It is fast-moving, riveting reading, ranking with the best thrillers on the bookshelf. Readers have picked up more than 2.5 million copies since its publication in 1986, and, with its companion volume Piercing the Darkness, it has sparked great interest in spiritual warfare over the years.

' Frank Peretti kicked open the doors that all of us Christian novelists are passing through today. We owe him a huge debt.' Jerry B. Jenkins, Author, The Left Behind Series

Amazing Book! November 3, 2005
                       Reviewer: Krista from Chicago, IL

This Present Darkness is an incredible book! The plot is gripping and thought provoking! The book is about the spiritual warfare that occurred in a small town when demons sought control of the town by influencing and inhabiting humans. The town?s only chance of surviving was through the help of 2 newspaper employees, the prayers of a young pastor?s small congregation, and the mighty warrior angels. I liked how Mr. Peretti illustrated the extreme good that can come from prayer. In the book, prayer strengthened many of the angels. I was also intrigued by the significant role that demons and angels play in this world. It had never occurred to me that demons have so much power and influence over the thoughts and actions of humans. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a deep and intriguing book.

The Start of Christian Fiction September 23, 2005
                       Reviewer: from Cody, WY

As I understand it, Frank Peretti virtually started the Christian fiction genre with this book. What a way to kick things off! This book is thought-provocative as to what goes on in the spiritual realm which we cannot see, and the story will keep you on the edge of your seat! A must-read for Christian fiction lovers.

Lifetime reading list entry August 21, 2004
                       Reviewer: Anonymous from Piladelpia, PA

An important book. When first published this book introduced believers to the reality that angels and demons can and do play roles in our everyday decisions and lives. Read the whole series!
