Author Christian Author
Author Biography
Francine Rivers began her literary career at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in English and journalism.

From 1976 to 1985, Francine Rivers had a successful writing career in the general market, and her books were awarded or nominated for numerous awards and prizes. Although raised in a religious home, Francine did not truly encounter Christ until later in life, when she was already a wife, mother of three, and an established romance novelist. Shortly after becoming a born-again Christian in 1986, Francine wrote Redeeming Love as her statement of faith. This retelling of the biblical story of Gomer and Hosea set during the time of the California Gold Rush is now considered by many to be a classic work of Christian fiction. Redeeming Love continues to be one of the Christian Booksellers Association’s top-selling titles, and it has held a spot on the Christian bestsellers list for nearly a decade.

Since Redeeming Love, Francine has published numerous novels with Christian themes--all bestsellers--and she has continued to win both industry acclaim and reader loyalty around the globe. Her Christian novels have also been awarded or nominated for numerous awards, including the RITA Award, the Christy Award, and the ECPA Gold Medallion. In 1997, Francine was inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. Francine’s novels have been translated into over twenty different languages, and she enjoys bestseller status in many foreign countries including Germany, The Netherlands, and South Africa.

Francine and her husband, Rick, live in Northern California and enjoy the time spent with their three grown children and every opportunity to spoil their four grandchildren. She uses her writing to draw closer to the Lord, and that through her work she might worship and praise Jesus for all He has done and is doing in her life.

The Scarlet Thread
The Scarlet Thread August 25th 2004 by Paula in South Africa

Being married this book teached me the holes you can step in ungaurded. I felt tremenous sorrow for Sierra and cried all along with her. This book touched me so deeply that out of all the books I have read from Francine this was the first one I choose to wright a review about.

Mark of the Lion Trilogy
Mark of the Lion Trilogy September 28th 2004 by Anonymous in

This trilogy is great! The author really knows about Christian history! I cried and laughed while I read this book. This book is unpredictable! Great book to read!

The Atonement Child
Francine Rivers is the best fiction writer! October 18th 2004 by Anonymous in michigan

This book had me in tears and in awe at the same time, its a heart warming book, that i would recommed to anyone, man or women, its shows you how great Gods love is!

A Voice in the Wind
An encouraging faith filled book October 18th 2004 by Stephanie in Arizona

This is an amazing, well written story about a young Christian girl's struggles during the Roman Empire. She falls in love with her master and struggles to remain faithful and pure before God. It tells of her loyalty to God during a time when being a Christian meant being thrown into an arena with starving lions for the mass entertainment. If you are struggling with speaking God's Word to those around you, then you will identify with Hadassah and be encouraged by her eventual reliance on Jesus. In the end, that is what we must do, rely wholly upon Christ for our strength. Francine Rivers gives you just enough of a romance, action story and tragedy and will encourage you in your walk with the Lord!

Unveiled
Unveiled October 25th 2004 by Anonymous in MO

This was my favorite story from this series. It's great to have the story of a forgotten heroine brought to life. It is a very moving tale.

The Atonement Child
Not her best work but Very Good none the less! October 27th 2004 by Stephanie in Arizona

I have read several of Francine Rivers novels and I believe God has given her a great talent in writing. She has the ability to suck you into the novel within the first several pages. This book was written very well and I would recommend it to anyone, as it deals with the very real issue of abortion and how pressure from any angle can unravel our lives if we are not living in the will of God. I only gave this book a 4 rating because I was spoiled by the Mark of The Lion series as those were my first readings of Mrs. Rivers. If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend those books. I am not an increadibly fast reader, but I had read the first two books in that series in about 4 days! May God Bless!!

Redeeming Love
GREAT BOOK!!! Deserves more then just 5 stars March 9th 2005 by Liz in Canada

The first day I bought this book, I sat on my desk and told myself I'd just read a chapter before I go to bed. That was 9pm. No matter how hard I tried, I could not put the book down. I found myself teary eyed, reading the ending, at 5am the next morning. Intending to read just the first few pages, I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting (with one bathroom break!). Everytime Angel would run away from Michael's love, I would say, "you stupid, ungrateful woman!" But as I was reading, God reminded me of all the times when I myself would backslide from my faith, thinking that I could make it on my own without Him - and of how unconditional His love is (like Michael's) when I come to my senses and ask for His forgiveness. After I finished the novel, I couldn't help but thank God for His forgiving, faithful, redeeming love. I definitely recommend this book. It was so good. I would read it again

The Scarlet Thread
Amazing Book March 9th 2005 by Liz in Canada

As Sierra's life reaches a turning point she turns to God, through His love she begins mending her life. Only God knows if it will include Alex. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone. We all struggle with fears when we are pushed outside our comfort zone. With God's help, we will find peace and understanding. Check and see what the results are from Sierra's test of fire... I hope you enjoy it

Unashamed
Rahab Retold! March 15th 2005 by samuel in New York

Francine Rivers has made the already exciting story of Rahab and Joshua, even more interesting. Reminds everyone that God can use you, even if you think you are unlike to be called upon.

As Sure as the Dawn
Great Book! July 14th 2005 by Krista in Chicago, IL

The third book in The Mark of the Lion series is good, but not nearly as captivating as the first two. Julia, Marcus, and Hadassah aren't in it. Instead, it follows the journey of the enslaved gladiator from the Germanic Tribes. This book illustrates the trials and hardships endured by new Christians. It's a well-written book with excellent themes like not being prideful and trusting in God. There are a few parts in the book that seem a little far-fetched, but the story is still good.

An Echo in the Darkness
Powerful and Inspiring Book July 14th 2005 by Krista in Chicago IL

I wish I could give this book 6 stars! I didn't think it was possible, but this book is even better than the first. Some of the major themes of the book are forgiveness, repentance, self-sacrifice, and of course, love. The book picks up immediately where the last one left off and takes the reader through Marcus' spiritual journey and the obstacles and consequences Julia is forced to endure because of her bad choices. One of the messages in this book is God's faithfulness and His never-ending love for us even though we aren't worthy. The characters and plot are well written and well developed.

A Voice in the Wind
Powerful Book! July 14th 2005 by Krista in Chicago, IL

This is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is one that touched my heart and really made me stop and evaluate my own walk with God and ultimately strengthened it. The book is historically accurate and illustrates the hardship and persecution that Christians were forced to endure a generation after Jesus walked the earth. It also shows how Roman culture was in that time. The characters and the plot are well developed. It's very easy to sympathize with the main character. The story is gripping and keeps the reader hooked until the very end. Make sure you start the second book as soon as you finish this one. You'll be glad you did!

The Last Sin Eater
Wow! July 14th 2005 by Krista in Chigaco, IL

What an amazing book! Francine Rivers does it again with The Last Sin Eater. Some of the main themes in this book are forgiveness and standing up for what's right even when it isn't popular. Mrs. Rivers does an excellent job of writing characters complete with flaws and unique personalities. The story is compelling and will make you stop and think.

Redeeming Love
Unbelievable July 25th 2005 by Kristy in Oklahoma

This book is absolutely incredible... words do not exist to describe the impact this book will have on your life, your heart and your love for Christ. I have read every single one of Francine's books and this one was the golden ticket! I started with it and read it in a weekend! She is amazing!

Mark of the Lion Trilogy
left me speechless... July 25th 2005 by Anonymous in Oklahoma

This trilogy is... is... I still shake my head in awe at how incredible these books are and I read them almost 3 years ago. I actually read "A Voice In The Wind" again recently. You will cry and giggle and cry again. Hadassah, Artretes and Marcus will honestly have a place in your heart long after you put the last book down. Don't be intimidated by the size of the books; you will not (TRUST ME) be able to put them down! 10 stars!!!

Redeeming Love
Highly recommended! September 13th 2005 by Anonymous in Canada

This book was excellent! Rivers puts this story in terms we can relate with even though it happened thousands of years ago. She did an awesome job of telling of the struggles of Hosea, who is trusting God completely when he is told to do somthing crazy! We can all learn from this story, and Rivers does a good job of lengthening this bible story to explain the struggles they went through.

Mark of the Lion Trilogy
Will change your life forever!! October 22nd 2005 by Jacqueline in Hawaii

On a recent trip to visit family, my cousin was in the middle of An Echo In the Darkness. Well, i bought the series, read the first chapter in the first book and somehow lost it in my room. While going through some hard times in my life, God enabled me to find the book and I read through it in 2 days. Of course at 3 in the morning I had to start reading the second book right away. When I finished it, I was crying my eyes out and for the next couple of days, couldn't get the story out of my head and was almost always overwhelmed with tears of joy. I'm now almost finished with the last book and I have NEVER been closer to God than I am now with this series. If you ever buy another book in your lifetime, make sure you buy this series, it will change your heart and your actions, and beyond the shadow of a doubt will bring you closer to God. I guarantee it.

Redeeming Love
Ive Been Wowed! November 7th 2005 by Raina in Illinois

This book was incredible! I was rivited and couldnt put it down, even when I knew Id regret staying up so late to finish it! What an inspiration! Rivers weaves a wonderfully exciting story while at the same time keeping true to the message of God without being preachy. I do have to mention, though, that some sensitive readers may be offended at the level of detail Rivers provides at times. It is understandible, considering the plotline. The reader follows the characters through violence, murder, the rape of a child, and sexual frustration of a married couple. The author handles it all tastefully, though, and "ends the scene" when the reader has gotten enough of the picture to figure out the rest. For those who can handle the subject matter, I absolutely recommend this book, but make sure youve got a large chunk of time to devote to it, because most people will probably not be able to put it down!

Redeeming Love
Redeeming Love November 30th 2005 by Sarah in California

This is possibly one of the best books ever written (aside from the Bible) it expresses perfectly the passion and desire and unending forgivenness that the Lord has for His bride, not to mention the beautiful picture of what a marriage relationship should look like.

Redeeming Love
Loved it!! February 16th 2006 by Anonymous in Washington D.C

A friend read this book and she told me it was incredible, somewhat doubtful I decided to read it. I read it and then I started it over I think in the end I read it about 6 times It had such a deep impact on me renewing my commitment to stay pure for my spouse someday.

The Atonement Child
had me hooked February 16th 2006 by Anonymous in Washington D.C

I could not put this book down for about three days I kept on thinking I has the end figured out and then all of a sudden its all turned upside down!n It was another great book by francine rivers.

Redeeming Love
Redeeming Love March 22nd 2006 by Anonymous in Las Vegas

This was one of the best books I have ever read. It has really changed my entire perspective on my marriage. I have a new found appreciaiton and love for the Lord because of everything that I put him through. I did not want this book to end. It is a MUST read.

And the Shofar Blew
A Must read for all Pastors April 17th 2006 by Pieter in Auckland

Francine once again speaks into the hearts of her readers. Having been a christain for the last 28 years, serving on several Church boards, and pastoring a young church for 3 years, I was amazed at the insight and understanding shown by the writer. From the zeal in the Pastors heart, the advice recieved along the way, the seeking and %3 ing to still hear the soft Voice of the Lord, when things are becoming more hectic by the moment, the stumbling blocks faced, the high price paid along the way, the temptations the adversary will roll in your way, to the final dawning of what is realy important. Yes it is all there! She clearly shows the dangers, and joys coming from being in His ministry. A Must READ, for all, and bless your Pastor with a copy as well. Glory to God

The Atonement Child
The Atonement Child April 19th 2006 by Anonymous in

I thought this book was really great because it shows that no matter what happens, God will always make things right and better than they were before.

Redeeming Love
Transformative April 25th 2006 by Elizabeth in Boston

Francine Rivers originally authored this book before she accepted Christ in her 30s. At that point she went back and reworked the storyline to reflect the story of Hosea from the Bible. She beautifully captures the heartache of committed love. I have recommended this book to every single woman I know. It is an amazing image of unconditional love through all the hills and valleys. A truly magnificant story.

Redeeming Love
Unconditional Love July 19th 2006 by LeighAnn in New Braunfels,TX

No matter how bad things are once you read Sarahs story you cant help but be transformed by Gods Grace You ARE worthy of his love and that of a Good Man. It was a hit with my Womens Ministry/study
