Author Biography
Ted Dekker is a New York Times bestselling thriller author. Heralded as a "master of suspense" by Library Journal, Dekker has sold millions worldwide, establishing himself as one of the most widely recognized author brands.

He began his career writing fantasy novels that explored spirituality (Black, Red and White) and has since become a major force in the mainstream fiction arena with his recent thrillers, "Adam," "Thr3e," "Skin," "Obsessed," and "BoneMan's Daughters," which landed in the #10 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list in 2009. Dekker has been honored with a Christy Award as well as a Gold Medallion Award for Best Fiction. "Thr3e" and his novel "House" became feature films, and more of his books are in development with Lionsgate Entertainment.

Dekker was born to missionaries and grew up among cannibals of Indonesia, and his peculiar upbringing gives him a unique perspective outside the cultural bubble, allowing him the freedom to share provocative insights in his fiction. After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States, earning his B.A. in philosophy and religion and going into business.

In the early nineties, Dekker decided to pursue his desire to write fiction, selling his company, moving his family to the mountains of western Colorado, and writing full-time. Two years and three books later his first novel, a supernatural thriller called Heaven's Wager, was published. Dekker proceeded to write 6 more supernatural thrillers, rising to the top of many bestsellers lists and earning himself critical acclaim and legions of fans. "Thr3e" heralded his launch into mainstream fiction and was followed by "Obsessed," "Skin," "Adam," and "BoneMan's Daughters," all of which hit the New York Times bestseller list.

Ted Dekker's fans are comprised of readers of all ages, backgrounds, and belief systems who love his compulsively readable stories, authentic characters, and universal and relatable themes that he explores from a unique point of view.

Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife and children.

What can I Say? July 28th 2004 by Sam in Canada

I could not but this book down. I found out about it on the back of teen Bible I had bought and decided to check it out. The bad thing was as soon as I had read the first paragraph I could not make myself put the book down. Ted Dekker's amazing storytelling techniques takes you to two whole new worlds and craftly is re-telling the stories of the Old Testament in a whole new way to help others understand God's grace. One thing I can say is I can't wait for Red!

Fasten your seat belt August 3rd 2004 by Ginni in Texas

This book is addicting. It's fast-paced and extremely hard to put down. Buy all three at once, because once you finish "Black", it's torture having to wait for the next one!

Thriller November 27th 2004 by Anonymous in College

I absolutely loved this Ted Dekker novel. I find Dekker to be a fascinating author, with always a new plot and more ideas for twists than any other writer I've read. Three is a very fast-paced novel with a tight story line and many interesting characters and events. It's not gory, but it does contain some *slightly* disturbing content as far as violence goes. But this is not to discourage anyone, I loved the book. The major and minor twists and plot changes throughout the book were not anticipated at all and made for a great reading, in just a few days! And all through the twists the book remains true to word - no inconsistencies. I'm waiting to forget a little of the thrilling parts before I read it again...and again...and again.

Mind-boggling February 6th 2005 by Kayla in

Thr3e is my favorite book, and I'm an avid reader. Usually I can figure out the endings of books early on, but not in this one. Ted Dekker throws in twists and turns that keep you guessing and then you're stunned at the end. I've read it twice in the space of a month. It's a thrilling suspense that I'd recommend to any one. Christian content is at a level so that long-time Christians can get something out of it, and unsaved readers will be attracted and begin to think about conquering evil.

Black
Black is just the begining March 12th 2005 by Anonymous in Indiana

Black is an addictive take of symbolism and mystery. This sci-fi/fantasy thriller will have keep your intrest until the very last page. You just can't stop with one book. You have to finish them all.

Edge of your seat May 12th 2005 by in Ohio

This was the first book by Ted Dekker and I was amazed. I have always liked mysteries with wild twists and was looking for a Christian author who could keep me guessing with every page. This book was wrote to where you think you know what is going to happen but you are never sure until the very end. I was told by the lady at the bookstore that people had either said they loved or hated the book. I can say that I loved it and reccommended it to my mom who also loved it.

Awesome! June 16th 2005 by Russ in USA

This book is great! Ted Dekker knows how to draw his readers in like a moth to a buglight! The ending leaves just a tiny bit to be desired--but I must admit--it's an awesome twist that you couldn't possibly see coming!

Perfect Novel July 11th 2005 by in Beaver County, PA

When I finished this novel, all I could do was say, "Wow." The twists were so mind-boggling that my brain stayed in shock mode for several hours. I can definitely say that Three is one of my favorite books of all time. Ted Dekker is a master of his genre!

Ted Dekker is amazing! He scores yet again. This book was well woven from start to finish, unexpectedly twisting and turning with you holding on for dear life. I eagerly await Renegade, the next book in the series. I loved this book wholly and completely. All the way through I thought to myself, "Now this is why Dekker is my favorite author". Please buy this book and read it as soon as possible! It will change you perspective entirely.

Saint
Cool! April 26th 2008 by Sherilyn in Ohio

This one was just so astonishingly cool. It was amazing. All the guys I know love this book, but girls can love the flame of romance, along with the incredible skills of the main character, Saint. It was fun and engrossing and interesting to say the least. Though fun is hardly the word. terror might fit in there as well. I very highly recommend Saint to all.

Chosen: The Lost Books #1
Choose Chosen August 21st 2008 by James in Midwest City, OK

Ted Dekker continues to amaze me with all the great works he puts out and how he intertwines the stories. Im still not sure how he will tie them all together in the end. This book is aimed at the YA but is for everyone. It deals with an alternate world where four teens are chosen to become part of the Forest Guard who is at war with the Hordethe desert dwellers. Johnis the main character is unsure of himself and why he was chosen but decides to follow his heart instead of his head. A really great book which also ties into Dekkers Circle trilogy, Showdown, and Skin. I would really recommend checking out this series as well as Dekkers other books. I cant wait to read the rest of this series.

BoneMan's Daughters
The BoneMan Cometh March 30th 2009 by Joshua in North Vernon, IN

One by one the bones break beneath his expert hands. He’s done this many times before. They don’t call him the BoneMan for nothing. It’s not that he wants to kill them necessarily, they just don’t meet up with the standards he’s set for the perfect daughter. And that’s all he wants. Someone to love him like he loves himself. But in his pursuit for perfection, the BoneMan faces a formidable foe. Ryan Evans, father of the BoneMan’s latest victim, is not just going to let his daughter go. Having been subjected to seeing the same sort of torture as a POW in the War on Terror, Ryan can only imagine his daughter placed in that situation. He hasn’t been a perfect father by any means; he’d barely been a part of his daughter’s life. But that experience had brought him closer, made him want to reconcile with his daughter. And now that he was back, this monster had taken her from him, trying to make her his own daughter. With the FBI thinking that Ryan himself is the BoneMan, he lashes out and goes vigilante. The battle between the Ryan and the BoneMan becomes personal. A war of two fathers in which one must fall. Boneman’s Daughter’s exhibits a depth and a breadth that is both heart-pounding and heart-stopping. It is page-turning and riveting. Be prepared for an intricately woven story that examines the depth of one father’s love. Prepare for 4.14.09, clear your schedule because you’ll not want to put this book down, calm yourself, keep the lights on, and enjoy…for behold, the BoneMan cometh.

BoneMan's Daughters
A Tale of two Fathers April 3rd 2009 by Anonymous in South Carolina

They call him BoneMan, a serial killer who’s abducted six young women. And now he has taken his seventh victim, daughter of protagonist Ryan Evans. Ted Dekker’s newest novel takes the reader from the sands of Iraq to the city of Austin, Texas, snatching the reader along with it and not letting go until the last scene. This novel contrasts two fathers, one who is trying desperately to win a daughter and another who will go to any lengths to find someone who will love him. Evans must find BoneMan before time runs out, but in the end only one father will remain. As one would expect from Dekker, he has woven a tale that combines edge-of-your-seat suspense with deep emotion, involving the reader mentally. Evans poured much of his life into his career, and when he returns from the desert after having his reality shattered, he finds that his family wants nothing to do with him. His actions result in the FBI suspecting him as BoneMan after his daughter is taken, so he is forced to rebuild his life with no one to run to as an ally. What follows are a series of introspective scenes and sequences of actions that could only be performed by a man desperate to restore a lost relationship, all of which kept me wanting to read and wondering what I would do if I were in the same situation. This book contains more violence than many of his other books with the possible exception of When Heaven Weeps. The violence serves a purpose and Dekker does not go out of his way to describe the BoneMan’s killings down to every gory detail, but if the thought of reading about a man who kills his victims by breaking their bones disturbs you, then you may be tempted not to read the book. I do not like reading violence and did not have any trouble with the book, so I think others would be fine. BoneMan’s Daughters is a novel that explores how to mend a broken relationship, from the initial conflict in the desert to the final, stunning scene. If like me you were unsure about reading it, take the risk and purchase it. You won’t be disappointed.

BoneMan's Daughters
Intense, thrilling read April 7th 2009 by Courtney in Milwaukee, WI

The BoneMan is the perfect father looking for the perfect daughter. When his victims don’t meet up to his expectations, he kills them, breaking their bones one by one. Ryan Evans is far from the perfect father. An intelligence officer who’s spent more time poring over data than being home, he’s estranged from his wife and daughter and they want nothing to do with him. But then the BoneMan takes Ryan’s daughter Bethany, and now he will stop at nothing to save her. Dekker’s latest novel does not disappoint. It is an intense, emotional, and deeply disturbing read that lingers long after the last page has been turned. The level and style of writing on Dekker’s part is top-notch, uncompromising in its pace and intensity. Though the content is disturbing at parts, it is meant to be. At times it is an uncomfortable read, not just because of the content, but because of the types of questions that arise because of it. The violence is gruesome, the abandonment felt by Bethany is complete, and the hopelessness seems all-consuming. But through the rich layers of symbolism and meaning woven throughout, Dekker conveys much more than a simple serial killer story. I highly recommend this challenging and intense read–just make sure you keep the lights on.

BoneMan's Daughters
New, Heart-Pounding Ted DeKker Thriller April 12th 2009 by Stephen in North Carolina

Ryan Evans is a naval intelligence officer with an exceptionally brilliant mind. He has been responsible for saving countless lives through his work in counter-intelligence over the last sixteen years. He is perhaps the best at what he does. That is his professional life. His personal life, on the other hand, has not been so successful. Spending the vast majority of his career away from his wife and daughter, his relationships with them and his resolve to repair those relationships seems beyond his ability and even his concern. That is until his life is changed by his abduction in Fallujah. His world and his world view are turned upside down by the shocking form of interrogation and treatment he received and witnessed at the hands of his captors. When Evans returns, stateside, to try and begin a normal life, he wants nothing more than to reconcile with his wife and especially his daughter, Bethany. That would prove to be challenging, to say the least. Especially when his daughter becomes the target of a psychopath who has previously kidnapped and murdered six other girls. This killer’s method of murder is to break his captor’s bones one by one with meticulous precision, without breaking the skin, until they are dead. It is up to Ryan Evans to find the “Boneman,” as he has been tagged, before it is too late. As brilliant as he may be, this will be nearly impossible as Evans, himself, has become the primary suspect in Bethany’s abduction. Everything goes haywire in this heart-pounding thriller by Ted DeKker, culminating in a breath-taking climax that you won’t believe. Can the man who wants nothing more than to save his daughter and be her father beat the Boneman at his twisted game? Read Boneman’s Daughters and see for yourself.

BoneMan's Daughters
Simply Beautiful April 12th 2009 by Marti in

BoneMan’s Daughters is a story of beauty and desire, of hatred and malicious intents, and of the love that is able to penetrate even the hardest hearts. It’s the story of Bethany, a young girl caught between two fathers. First, we have her adopted father, Ryan Evans, who has chosen to remain out of her life, instead burying himself in his job as an Intelligence Officer. It’s not until a botched mission in Fallujah that his desire to be the father he never was manifests, but is it too late to earn her love? Secondly, we have BoneMan, a serial killer who has abducted and killed 6 girls by meticulously breaking each of their bones. He is the perfect father looking for a daughter, and expects no less than perfection from her. Both are vying for the position of father and in the end, only one will stand. When BoneMan abducts Bethany to make her his 7th daughter, Ryan immediately responds. But, the FBI has uncovered new evidence that Ryan is BoneMan. Now pursued by the FBI, he must overcome impossible odds to rescue his daughter. Ted Dekker has yet again woven an intricate and relevant tale that extends beyond its literal interpretation. Often considered a master of his craft, he proves this again with his latest book. BoneMan’s Daughters doesn’t affect on a superficial level, but burrows deep into your mind and continues to pose questions long after you close the cover. It is guaranteed to bring in newcomers to his stories, as well as far exceed to expectations of his fans.

Green
Round and Round We Go: A Review of Green by Ted Dekker August 14th 2009 by Andrew in Muskegon, MI

Ted Dekker’s latest fantasy thriller, Green, is referred to as “The Beginning and the End.” It’s been over 5 years since fans first answered the call to “Dive Deep” into an alternate reality where the spiritual has been made clear and evil is as plain as the scabs on your skin. Fans of Dekker’s work are surely familiar with the question “How does this tie in to the rest of his books?” Over the past 5 years, more novels than not have been intertwined into this bigger story called the “Books of History Chronicles”. The Circle Series, Lost Books, and Paradise Novels tell the story of humanity through the lens of extraordinary books that have the power to create history. In essence, “The Word is made Flesh”. With The Books of History Chronicles now including upwards of 15 novels, the larger story has surpassed epic status. Thousands of Ted’s avid readers have been swept into his writing through one of these books. This makes Green his most anticipated novel to date. Green finds the Circle in a desperate place, 10 years since their Savior has last been seen. Many within Elyon’s band of rebels have begun to doubt their core beliefs and practices. How do you love and follow a God that seems distant? Is He truly in control when your world seems in chaos? Dekker poses these age old questions in a fresh light by examining them through the eyes of the Circle. Amidst such deep theological questions, there is still fun to be had. A fast-placed plot full of betrayal, reality-hopping, battles, and hand-to-hand combat serve as the backdrop for the bigger themes of the story. Dekker knows how to balance thought-provoking concepts with non-stop action. After over 2 dozen novels, Ted has it down to an art, and it shows in this latest adventure. Green reads as a fitting end, or perhaps a beginning, to Ted’s signature series. This is must-read fiction for all fans of Dekker. The Circle has proven to be one of the most moving, yet relevant, allegories of all time, and Green lives up to the series in which it belongs. Green reads as both the finale, yet also the prequel to the 2004 masterpieces, Black, Red, and White. Expertly tying in loose story threads from the Paradise Novels and Lost Books, Dekker weaves a truly satisfying conclusion to the series that has spawned a thousand conversations and ignited countless fans to fall deep in love with their Creator.

Green
Beginnings and Endings September 10th 2009 by Ryan in Baltimore, MD

Green is the gateway book if you will. The begining that draws you into the story or the ending that finalizes the story. Ted has been doing it great for countless books and this one is no exception. Truely a wonderful piece of imagination from one of todays greatest writers.

Green
The Beginning and the End September 10th 2009 by Caitlyn in

Green…the beginning and the end. No one quite knew what to expect when Ted announced he was going to write a novel that would be a sequel AND a prequel to the Circle trilogy, but I daresay that never has one of his books been more anticipated. Black, Red, and White introduced us to Thomas Hunter, the man who lives between two worlds. At the same time he is trying to stop a terrorist’s virus from wiping out the human population of our world, he is battling the Shataiki, evil in its rawest form, and their servants the Horde, in Other Earth. While just a few weeks pass in our world, Thomas lives many years in Other Earth and becomes a family man and a great warrior, the leader of the Circle, a people devoted to Elyon. By the time of Green, the virus has been stopped, but Other Earth is facing its toughest battle yet. Division from within threatens to tear the Circle apart and betray the most deeply held values that makes them everything they are. This schism will test the resolve of the faithful and begin the most epic showdown of good and evil Other Earth has ever seen. Reading Green does indeed feel like a return to the world of the Circle, but it is certainly not Black-Red-White all over again. There are several dramatic stylistic differences. First of all, in the original trilogy, the immediate stakes in our world equaled the stakes in the other world. In Green, although much important action takes place in our world, it all revolves around what’s happening in the other world, on Other Earth. I didn’t mind this a bit, but some fans miss the global drama that was played out in Black, Red, and White. Green is also much darker than the original trilogy. It takes us to all new lows of evil that I seriously did not think were possible. Green also introduces fans to a whole new category of characters whose story was first mentioned in the Lost Books and will be further explored in the upcoming Immanuel’s Veins. If you thought the Shataiki were bad, wait till you meet the ones who have knowingly and joyfully sold their souls to them. But while it does indeed plunge new depths, it also soars to new heights…literally. In my opinion, Green contains some of the most beautiful and entrancing scenes in the entire series. I was utterly captivated by the passionate crazy love that was displayed between Thomas and Elyon, and Thomas and his wife Chelise. Ted Dekker certainly can write the most sick and twisted evil you will find anywhere, but he also writes the most incredibly beautiful and perfect love stories with equal intensity. I don’t mean mush. I mean LOVE. So is Green the end or the beginning? …Yes. Green is chronologically the end of the Circle, although elements of it are chronologically at the beginning. It will read as a climax to those who’ve already read the trilogy, and it will also serve as a perfect starting point to those who have yet to experience the Circle. Feedback from new fans and old has been very positive. Green is a fantastical, suspenseful adventure into the heart of darkness and the heights of glory. It is every bit worthy of the name on its cover. Start early in the day—otherwise you might not sleep. Oh, and watch out for the ending—NO ONE saw that one coming.

GREEN: My favorite color... September 11th 2009 by Brandon in

Green is Ted’s latest offering in the Books of History Chronicles, wrapping up loose ends from the original Circle trilogy, the Paradise Novels, and the Lost Books. It is the beginning and the end. A tale full of blood, war, and intoxicating love. It may sound like an 0xy-moron, but Ted manages to pull it off with the usual heart-stomping Dekker signature. Some may argue about how dark the story is, or how some plot elements just don’t work, or how many theological problems may pop up here and there. But I think that they’ve lost the meaning of this piece of art in translation. At the heart of this novel are the elegantly-sung words, “You are beautiful… So beautiful… Beautiful.” This novel encapsulates that theme, even in the most hopeless of times, and Dekker brings to light his most soul-wrenching, ambitous story to date. Pick up your copy as soon as you can, and open your eyes to the world of colors, where even the smallest soul is at the largest stake.

Green: The Beginning & The End, Circle Series #0

This book is outstanding!! With it being both the beginning and the end of the series! I would highly reccomend this book as well as the rest of the circle series to anyone!

Ted Dekker has once again created a masterpiece September 15th 2009 by Sarah in Reseda, CA, USA

Green. In my mind there is no way to describe the greatness of this book, of the series, without sounding like a retard. Ted Dekker is an amazing amazing writer. His books are always hard to stop reading but Green especially. He takes things that you wouldn’t have ever thought of and makes them real and very much alive. I love Green because it makes a great last book, but it also grabs your attention to get you reading the rest of the series, it makes you wonder how things came into being. To any of you reading this, I HIGHLY recommend it, to everyone, this isn’t a book that should be overlooked, please pick it up and dive deep into the world of Thomas Hunter, of the Circle. You won’t regret it. I sure didn’t.

Green: The Beginning & The End, Circle Series #0
Green a must read!! September 17th 2009 by alan roney in Reno, Nevada

The beginning…the end….complete…and zero I read the books in order at least in the order written… and was very ok with how things played out. What I liked most about Green, is a statement in chapter 37; “With each passing day Billy remembered more why he loved Marsuuv the way he did.” In so many ways, he was only doing what he was created to do: love himself. The book is about selfishness… about loving the self…which never leads to love…it’s actually the opposite. I enjoyed the characters but in the end it’s really about the whole…human group that leads itself down the road of destruction. Look around and realize that we are here, living in this moment of Green…and in some ways its very sad because like the ending we can’t seem to stop the progression to destruction. We will go down this path…because we choose not to love…Eloyn save us!! This is Ted Dekker’s best work in that he does not pull any punches in telling how important our creator is…how important love is. Between Hoard, Half-breed and Albino, we are surely different…but love is always available for us to accept and help each other be great…and anything less than love is selfishness and evil. Really…it’s that simple. A must read!

Green
Amazing, yet leaves me questioning still. September 18th 2009 by Cory in

First of all I would like to say that Ted Dekker is my favorite author. My mom got me Chosen for Christmas one year and my interest developed from there into pure fascination. As a huge Dekker fan, I am quite accustomed to walking away from one of his novels perplexed and filled with questions. I did not expect that to happen in this book, but it did anyway. Green truly is a circular series, with the end also being the beginning. That in itself is confusing, but the way he executed this was the biggest confusing factor. Samuel, Thomas’ son, has lost his way and has led an army against the Horde, who she should love. He has turned his back on Elyon and is ultimately killed by Qurong. When Thomas learns of his son’s death, he is grief-stricken. Not because of his son’s death, but because he had become a Judas of that world, turning his back on Elyon which ultimately prevented him from living with Elyon after death. Thomas cries out to Elyon to give him a way to save his son. Thomas disappears and finds himself on white desert sand in front of the boy, who is Elyon. Elyon tells him that he has a way to save his son, but he will lose all his memories and the choices he makes will affect everyone alive. This is how Green feeds into Black, having Thomas stripped of his memories in Denver, which was/is depending on where one starts in the Circle Black’s first chapter. This, obviously, makes Thomas go in a Circle through time, a never-ending cycle. It confuses me to no end, because it’s as if Thomas never dies and will never end up with Elyon. After hearing someone’s speculation on IV and the Blood books, this may in time be explained. That however is purely speculation, and I fear that this will just never make any sense to me. On another note, this is a great book and Ted did an excellent job tying everything together. Not just with the Circle, but the BoHC in general. Bill, the redhead in Black, is explained in a very unexpected manner. Origins of the infamous character, Marsuvees Black, are also mentioned. Billy, the Sinner, plays a very huge role in the book. Loose ends Ted has put in place in his other novels are pulled together here in a fascinating way that left me reeling. Green truly is a spectacular novel. Lived up to, and beyond my expectations.

Green
I liked the Circle Trilogy better March 1st 2010 by in

Green Book 0 is the first or the last book of the 4-book “Circle” series. According to Dekker, the reader can “start with Black, then read Red, White and end with Green. Or start with Green and move on to Black, Red and White.” When I started reading the series, Green wasn’t published yet so I had no choice but to start with Black and end with Green. Theologically, the book is splotchy. I like Dekker’s allegory of salvation. Jesus is pursuing the lost and He wants them to love Him, but at the same time I don’t like that “The Great Romance” can somewhat allude to having lovey-dovey feelings for Jesus, which is unbiblical, weird, and distasteful. At the same time, Samuel Hunter is a good example of how salvation and a relationship with Christ needs to be personal. One can’t get to Heaven just because their parents are Christian or the fact that one was raised in church. A person must develop their own personal and genuine relationship with Christ. In terms of family friendliness, I say “no”. The book describes rituals, fight, and battle scenes in vivid, and most of the time, gory detail. The character, Billy, uses some sex-tinged dialogue, such as calling a woman a whore, and compares traveling between two realities to sex. That’s basically what is said, but it’s unnecessary. The character, Janae, acts seductively, but it’s not explicit. Green is a good book with some very dramatic, emotional, and powerful moments, but I wish it was more family-friendly like the other books in the series. I guess one could read just Red, Black, and White and be okay with that, but the series is so interesting you just want to read more. In fact, I do want to read the Lost Books series which is aimed towards youth and the Paradise novels which elaborates more on the characters and certain events mentioned in the series. The Circle series is a creative, thrilling, dramatic, and well-written series. However, I liked The Circle Trilogy better than The Circle Series. I’m glad I read Green last. I feel as if I read it first, Green would’ve given too much away. The series is truly circular, which is both a good and bad thing. Creating a “Book Zero” is ingenious and it links Books 1 and 3 well, but it leaves the reader at least, me hanging. I feel as if I have so many unanswered questions. I might have to read Black again. But maybe that was the point.
