For dc talk, Free At Last was a defining moment. Boldly irreverent and unapologetically honest, Free At Last established dc talk as an artist to be reckoned with, a pacesetter in Christian music. Produced by Toby McKeehan, Mark Heimermann and Joe Hogue, the album mixes the hip-hop conventions of the early 90's with themes of racial harmony, sexual abstinence and love as action.
The result was nothing short of platinum, one big history-making hint of future greatness. In the 10 years since its release in 1992, this Grammy Award-winning album stands not only as a ground-breaking testament to dc talk's artistic coming-of-age, but also as a revolutionary turning point in the history of Chritian music.

Since releasing their album Jesus Freak, dc Talk has emerged as a leader in the pursuit of melding rock 'n' roll with provocative questions of faith. Although various rock predecessors have examined spiritual issues--U2, Van Morrison, and Bob Dylan immediately come to mind--dc Talk has taken the notion to new lengths, both in commercial terms and depth of artistic exploration. Numerous Dove Awards, three Grammy Awards, two platinum albums, one gold album, and two gold-certified long-form videos attest to the group's ability to bridge the gap between religious and secular audiences. DC Talk breakthru album. Challenging different aspects of life. A very controversial/ good album. Dc talk leading christian music and guiding future bands to come.
Great CD. September 15, 2006 Reviewer: Brandon from
i love this CD. DC Talk is awesome, but this CD rocks because it is their best Rap-Era CD. "Lean On Me" is my favorite.
good album March 4, 2006 Reviewer: Anonymous from Xela
Free at last shows the hip hop style of Dc talk, the music style of the 90´s. It´s also a classic from the band. If you like hip hop, you´ll love this cd. I like the song "The Hardway".

Talk about D.C. Talk!!! October 22, 2005 Reviewer: Kristy from
D.C. Talk rocks. This was one of my first Christian C.D's and I have loved it since the beginning. This is a must buy C.D. for any Jesus Freak. FREAK ON!!!
excellent August 4, 2005 Reviewer: Anonymous from NY
This is such a tuneful little album. And it really rocks at times. I love the irresistible "Socially Acceptable," the seductive "Say the Word," the lessons and craftiness of "The Hard Way," the remake of the classic Bill Withers tune "Lean on Me," and the joyous gospel romp of "Word to the Father." Now on to my only complaint. Why can't these boys play any of their own instruments? But the music and tunes are so catchy and pop friendly that you won't care once you get into it. Buy this.
One of my favs by DC Talk November 20, 2004 Reviewer: Anonymous from San Diego, CA
This was the last hip hop style CD before DC Talk went more into alternative rock. I love it. Every song is great and definitely an old school CD that Christian teenagers would enjoy.
Tastily 80s November 19, 2004 Reviewer: Derek from CA
DC Talk has an uncanny knack for being progessive enough in their music to be a little edgy yet accessible to the everyday person. This album contains solid hits that reflect the era while still being fun no matter the time period. I'm thrilled that some of these tracks STILL are played on the radio.
Free at Last October 29, 2004 Reviewer: from Wynantskill, NY
I've never like dance music or anything like it, but this album makes me want to get up and dance. It's extremely energetic and DC Talk yet again does not back down from anything they believe. It was the greatest thing when I heard "Jesus is Still Alright" being played in Dick's Sporting Goods a few years ago. I love this album!!
To say a classic is an understatement August 20, 2004 Reviewer: Stephen from Brighton (England)
This album really showed DC Talks true potential and put them on the map for the future. Good lyrics, good tunes, great album!!
