my favorite January 7, 2008 Reviewer: Jonathan from brentwood
my favorite of the dc talk trio, kevin max presents his first solo album and it is truly fantastic. Taking his piece that he added to dc talk and creating his own sound with it.. Amazing
Awesome sound but lack of Praise August 19, 2005 Reviewer: Justin from
Kevin Max has produced a very awesome sounding record "Stereotype Be" but the only reason for the three instead of five rating is because it lacks one major thing, lyrics which give praise to God. That is the true purpose of music anyways. Other than that the sound and messages like the ones in "Be" (being yourself) get a big thumbs up from me.
different but good April 10, 2005 Reviewer: Anonymous from CA
KMax has a really distinctive sound. It's kind of hard to describe, but the new-age feel he brings to his songs make them sound really authentic. His lyrics get a little esoteric, but you still can tell where he stands regarding God. I highly recommend
Great! November 22, 2004 Reviewer: Jason from Arizona
I love this CD, so many songs are just deep down and soul, with a mix of modern contemp music, this is sure to be as classic like Kmax himself.
Great Music October 8, 2004 Reviewer: Amanda from Gambier, OH
I've always liked Kevin Max (dcTalk) and his style. Stereotype Be did not let me down. "Be" is my favorite track on this album... very unique and inspiring-- a call to be yourself, no matter what. The book that goes along with this cd is also very good... I enjoyed every page and it helped me understand the lyrics and the ideas behind the album.
Awesome October 6, 2004 Reviewer: from Tyler, TX baby!
Kmax has an incredibly distinct voice, style, and lyrics. You may think that this cd is out there, but it is just awesome poetry and beautiful music. I will get his 2nd cd as soon as i can afford. The DC Talk band members' solo albums are drainin my cash! They are all awesome!
I love this album!! August 20, 2004 Reviewer: Stephen from Brighton (England)
So many people have slated this album as too wierd or off the wall - but I'm sorry - but this album rocks!!! No offense to those guys; I can see where you're coming from but K. Max has produced an album that has been ideal listening material in hard times. The song 'Be' is a classic example of what Kevin Max has to say - be yourself, coz if you dont then no one else is going to!!! Classic. Buy it.
This Album is ahead of its time! August 15, 2004 Reviewer: Anonymous from UK
There has been alot of hoo-hah about this individual, concerning his divorce and what not. Can I just say if anyone still has problems with that, then get real.
I've only ever seen him live once, and it probably was not one of the best gigs to go to, considering he didn't have his actual band with him (Luna Halo Instead). I saw a man who loved the crowd, loved God, loved his music and was original and good at what he did.
For those musicians out there and music lovers with an open taste this album, in my opinion is the best Christian solo album ever. Kevin is simply honest in this album, but not only that. Because of his wide taste in music this album songwriting is intense and deals with issues Christians tend to leave alone. The production is nothing far from excellent, so too is his unique voice. A lot of people said it wasn't rocky enough, well I'm sorry Kevin isn't Michael Tait in another form.
For those of you who are sick of the same old Christian solo artist garbage then listen to this, and give yourself time to get into the album.
It is a must buy!
P.S. Sorry for waffling a bit I'm just a Christian Musician, with a serious cynical attitude that needs praying for.
cool stuff August 13, 2004 Reviewer: Anonymous from USA
I have never heard anything like this before. It's definitely different. But the whole of the Cd was not up to par. IT was one of those Cds where you'll be inspired for one song, and then you'll loose interest for the next three. THen you get intersted again, only to loose hope again. But personally, I think those songs that inspired were worth it. It's a cool CD
Originality July 28, 2004 Reviewer: Anonymous from PA
If I had to describe KMax in one word, it would be original. This album is very unique. Songs like Existence and Be will definitely inspire you; but in my opinion this CD has a lot of empty spaces. It's not all that it could be. But,nevertheless, former dcTalk member Kevin Max proves his distinct singing voice and ability to write music in Sterotype Be.
