ROCK!! () by Lauren in USA

What can I say - the fifth and newest Skillet album, Alien Youth, flat out ROCKS! This album has harder songs than some of their previous albums ("Stronger", "Rippin' Me Off"), but it also has some pop-influenced rock songs ("One Real Thing"), and ballads ("You Are My Hope", "Come My Way"). "Thirst Is Taking Over" is a very powerful song! The lyrics are a cry from the heart for God to fill our deep-down thirst for Him. It has a cool beat that I wouldn't have thought of as being "Skillet" - but it really works! The band is expanding themselves to even higher levels musically! "Will You Be There" is a definite first for Skillet! The song is reminiscent of an 80's ballad straight off of a movie soundtrack. John Cooper (bass, lead vocals) and his wife, Korey Cooper (keys, vocals) share vocals in this song, which I might add blend very well together. The duet could be considered a love song, but is actually a song sung to God about His faithfulness. "Kill Me, Heal Me" is one of the rockier songs on the album. It has all the loops, whistles, and industrial sounds of "You're Powerful" (from the band's Invincible album), while still showing the originality of Skillet. The song is about dying to our flesh daily and allowing God to come in and make us more like Him. "Earth Invasion" wasn't one of my favorite songs the first time I listened to the album, but now I love it! The song has really cool lyrics about the kingdom of God infiltrating the planet, and it really keeps the Alien Youth theme. "Join us in the army that's arising, let the truth invade your mind, everyday the kingdom is advancing, the Earth invasion has just begun." Alien Youth is an all-around great album! Skillet has shown their growth musically, and lyrically. The band has proved over the years that they are a staple rock group in Christian music, and with Alien Youth, they are still standing strong.

Nice Debut () by Sarah in Florida

This is the CD that made me fall head over heels in love with Skillet! I was browsing through the internet a long time ago looking for Christian groups when I stumbled upon the official Skillet website. After hearing the songs "I Can" and "Saturn" online, I was hooked by this group! Those songs blew my mind and continue to be some of my most favorite songs of all time. As for the rest of this album, the music is a little more alternative than what you're used to hearing from Skillet. In all honesty, there aren't any other stand out songs from this CD, but it's definitely trackable and worth having in any collection.

panhead!! () by Julie in texas

Skillet is great!!! this cd is awesome!!!

Awesome () by Stephen in Brighton (England)

This is the album that really took Skillet to the top and is a perfect mix of rock, worship and other types of music. I enjoyed it and so will you.

If "I Can," you can. () by Anonymous in PA

Before they delved into the realms of techno rock with such releases as "Hey, You, I Love Your Soul" and "Invincible," there was Skillet's self-titled debut. "I Can" is the first, and best, track on the album, unique, inspiring, thrilling all at once. "Safe With You" is slower, but equally inspiring – I love listening to it when I feel on-edge or overworked. The song has always been able to bring me back around, calm me down, and set my vision straight. Great album, great debut, also check out "Collide," Skillet's fifth release.

The swing back towards rock begins . . . () by Anonymous in PA

Alien Youth, while still stamped with Skillet's trademark techno-rock, marks a move towards more of a worship-like album. Yeah, I know . . . there are still some hard rock songs, the title track and "Kill Me, Heal Me" notably among them. But a handful of tracks aside from these are softer, harmonized and deftly vocalized by Cooper . . . something unheard of on their self-titled debut. The result is a gorgeous, albeit different sounding album from Skillet.

Rockin () by Benjamin in India

Ask 10 Christian Worship music fans and 9 would associate worship music with a formal stage, an orchestra, a choir,.... Rock Music has produced very little live praise albums. Step in Skillet and Ardent Records!! Ardent Records has churned out 3 hot new live worship albums by three of their most popular acts - Skillet, All Together Separate and Satellite Soul. Of these Skillet really rocks ya. Satellite Soul is more acoustic. I’ve heard just a few snatches from the ATS album and can’t comment. Skillet performs this album at the Chi Music Room in their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. There are 5 new original Skillet numbers mixed into regular worship numbers on this album. The choice of songs is brilliantand results in an awesome performance that stretches from heavy rocking numbers to soft intimacy to instrumental interludes that captivate! The musical interludes explore tha guitar playing skills of Kevin Haaland and piano solos by Korey Cooper. The later half of the album has many such poignant moments. Agreed that John Cooper’s voice sounds like he has a sore throat, but he proves himself capable of singing just about anything!! The variation is stunning. Take the songs they’ve redone. There’s the rocking heavy Your name is Holy (Brian Doerksen) that has some really awesome guitarworks. They’ve also strung in How Deep the Father’s Love (Stuart Towend) which sounds like a hymn. Korey’s vocals joining in on the last verse is wonderful Jesus, Jesuswhich is sung in earnest awe gives a very intimate mood to the worship experience in the first half. The album also features Darlene Zschesch’s Shout to the Lord. Now John’s voice is 134% different from Darlene’s! - but the song still has the same powerful feel that Darlene packs into her version!! The above songs are placed in the midst of original songs composed by skillet. Most of these are hard and heavy on guitars. The opener Who is like our God is a great starter and sets the mood for the rest of the album. Really gets you going. Jesus, be Glorified has Cooper screaming out with guitars screeching around that leads into a short Bible reading (read out in a business-like voice by John!). That leads onto Sing to the Lord that carries the rocking mood into the second half. It’s a great blend of modern rock and straightforward praise music. Skillet is not all hard rock and that reflects in Angels Fall Down. The song has very few words but the lyrics and the soft piano with Korey’s clear vocals accompanying John’s create a wonderful song that leads into a prayerful instrumental interlude. I love the way the bass and the guitars blend into the piano and then burst out with John ooo..oo..ind and hmmmm..mm..ing in the background!! An absolutely fantastic moment in the album!! Safe with You has John’s sore throat (ooops) cracking up in a few places and somehow does not fit in well. John Cooper says very little through the album. You hear him say Awesome God, We worship you Jesus, and a few other lines, but he builds a lovely intimacy into those few words that clearly show why Skillet perform - to glorify God!!

New Look at Skillet () by Michael in Conway, SC

This is a great DVD with the unplugged performances of "Alien Youth," "One Real Thing," "Kill Me Heal Me," "You Are My Hope," and "Best Kept Secret." It is so cool hearing these songs done accoustically, and it should be enjoyable by most anyone. It also has a Bible study and the "Best Kept Secret" music video on it and a few more extras. Don't miss this one! God bless all.

Skillet () by Mike in Schoolcraft, MI

This is probably Skillet's best CD. I really like the song Vapor (track #2). It reminds us that we are all but a vapor and will soon disappear. Also in the song "Rippin Me off," Skillet expresses their frustration with the world when they say that God is dead or doesn't exsist. I really like listening to this CD when I am working out. It's got the right kind of sound to really make me work harder.

Rockin Worship! () by Glenn in Okinawa, Japan

I love the Skillet sound. Heavy industrial rock, worshipful lyrics, and John Cooper's distinctive voice blend together to create music that's great to listen to. "You Are My Hope" and "Alien Youth" are my favourite songs on this CD. "World-wide Jesus domination, love conquers all Rise like a chosen generation, there's no stopping at all" Check out this album... you won't be disappointed.
